Immigration Raid Leads to Arrests and Fines
February 5th, 2009 § 1 Comment
On February 3, 2009, a northern Indiana company and its president plead guilty to federal charges stemming from an immigration raid that occurred in March 2007 and netted 36 undocumented workers. According to the company’s website, Janco Composites employs 250 employees. Douglas Jaques, the president, plead guilty to knowingly employing undocumented employees for a commercial advantage and agreed to pay a $30,000 fine and spend a year on probation. Janco Composites also plead guilty to similar charges and has agreed to pay a fine of $210,000. Sentencing has been scheduled for April 22, 2009.
This is another example of the outcome of increased worksite enforcement, which is slated to increase this year. Employers should ensure their I-9 forms are compliant with the law now.
Just passing by.Btw, you website have great content!
